About
Spooner Boards started by accident. In the summer of 2006, Randy Putland was cleaning up the backyard of his Old Town San Diego surf shop. He cut up an old plastic dog igloo, saw a skateboard deck in its curve and shaped a few boards. Without wheels, they turned out to be something better. His daughter and her friends rode them for hours, and the Spooner Board was born. Randy's surfing buddy Bernie Miller and, soon after, Reuben Guymer joined him. The three of them bootstrapped the company from a garage and patented its unique spoon shape. Today we've sold more than 1,000,000 boards. Spooners are used in over 10,000 schools and sold worldwide, and they've been featured on Shark Tank. We still make, pack and ship every board ourselves from our San Diego warehouse. Our boards help riders of all ages build balance and confidence to surf, skate and snowboard.
